Yummy Birthday

The idea for this card all started with the striped and alphabet paper scraps. Sometimes it is amazing how "using what I have" turns into a card I really love. Adding glitter made it that much better to me! Yum! Hope you enjoy it!

I decided not to crop the top left corner of this photo so you can see the stamps I used. I didn't even think about taking a pic of them when I was downstairs. The yellow ones in the CD case are the cupcake, candle and sentiment images(out of view). They are by Inque Boutique. Their stamps come without any foam backing. You simply place your stamp on any clear acrylic block, apply ink and stamp. The step you must not forget is using the included foam pad under your cardstock for an even, crisp image. The company calls it their "secret weapon". LOL It really does work. A foam pad is included in each set you purchase from them. The Inque stamps I've gotten have all been from Pat Catan's craft stores here in Ohio. They are so very inexpensive and store easily in CD cases!

I was able to achieve the multi-colored image by using my SU! markers. Simply color the area of the stamp with your markers, "huff" your moist breath on the stamp, then stamp your image onto cardstock. Remember: Use the "secret weapon" under your cardstock for best results. Since the stamps themselves are used with a clear acrylic block, it is super easy to see right where you are stamping for easy alignment. No need for a Stamp-a-ma-jig with these! :)

The candle was stamped separately, cut out and adhered using dimensional foam. The entire cupcake piece is on dimensionals as well. It makes for tall layering, but well worth paying extra postage for a fun card. I added loads of Stickles with chunkier glitter pieces for the icing and flame. Using the cutter kit for the patterned paper pieces helped create an area for the sentiment and mimics the curve of the actual sentiment, too. To make the scalloped piece stand out, I sponged some Regal Rose ink along the edges.

Ashland County Fair...Well, Kevin and I went to the fair for about 45 minutes on Sunday afternoon. We dashed to the Hobby Building only to find out that the scrapbook entries are judged Monday morning. So, no news there. The fair board closed the fairgrounds at 4:30pm due to extreme high winds. It was so, so windy for hours after that. We had to brace the breezeway storm door from the outside as it was whipping open and I was so afraid it would rip off the hinges! It wouldn't even stay latched! Whew! The kitched screen blew in and there were leaf bits all over the counter! (All of our windows have removable screens and the kitchen one is placed on the inner side of the window.) Yes, it was super windy! I've never had that happen! We've lost the other screens that are placed on the outside, but never this one! The wind has finally died down as I type this Sunday evening and I'm super glad for the expected cooler temps and sunshine the next few days. I'll give you a "scrapbook entry" update on Tuesday. I plan to go visit the fair again Monday night since our visit was cut short Sunday.
